Football League Information

Season of Play

The season of play begins May 1st. Fall practices may begin on August 16. The season of play ends at Provincial Finals.


Levels of Competition

There are two interschool leagues, a senior league and a junior league. League structure is determined at the preseason meeting held in January or February.


Eligibility

All players must fulfill ASAA requirements. Any player who participates in games with a Junior or Post-Secondary Football team will be ineligible to play for their high school team for the season. 

Both Junior AND Senior players must be registered with the ASAA by October 1st.

Junior League - open to all students enrolled in Grade 10 and 11, with a maximum two years of Junior level eligiblity.


Rules of Play

Games will be played according to the current rules of the Canadian Amateur Football Association.

Benches
  • If benches are opposite each other, HOME TEAM sits OPPOSITE BLEACHERS.
  • If benches are on the same side as each other, HOME TEAM sits SOUTH or EAST.
Choice of Direction or Ball
  • Visiting team has choice during league play, higher ranked team has choice during playoffs.
Jerseys
  • Home team wears dark jersey during league play, higher ranked team has choice during playoffs. If visiting team does not have light jersey, it is their responsiblity to contact opponent to make arrangements.
Game Ball
  • The official Metro league game ball is the Wilson F Leather 1005.


Team Responsibilities

Home Team Responsibilities for Junior Games
  • Supply yardstick crew
Announcers
  • Announcers are provided for Senior Games only at JP Bowl and Emerald Hills Fields. The home team may choose to provide an announcer for games at other locations, or the visiting team may do so with the permission of the home team, if the home team chooses not to.


Team Supervision

Staff sponsors must be provided for all "out-of-school" coaches and sponsors must be in attendance at games.  Staff sponsors must be employees of the respective School District. The staff sponsor must identify themselves to the opposing team prior to the game and remain on site (in the gym or on the field) for the duration of the game.  In the event there is no staff sponsor on site, the game will be considered a default.  In the event of extenuating circumstances, the default is subject to Appeal to the Executive Committee.

Supervision of Spectators
It is the responsibility of each participating school to ensure adequate supervision of its own fans, notwithstanding that Special Duty, RCMP or priviate security supervision may be provided.

 

Standings Tie-Breaking Procedures

For the purposes of all standings calculations, the maximum point differential that will be recorded for any one game is +33 points. If a game is won by more than 33 points, the losing team's score will be recorded accurately, and the winning team's score will be recorded as 33 points more than the losing team's.

If Two Teams are Tied:
  • Game between tied teams will decide positions.
  • If still tied, points for and against (differential) involving the top three teams not involved in the tie will decide the positions.
If Three or More Teams are Tied:
  • Games between the tied teams
  • If still tied, points for and against (differential) involving only the tied teams
  • If still tied, points for and against (differential) involving the top four teams not involved in the tie


Field Policies

  1. Dressing rooms will be available 1 hour prior to game time.
  2. Teams do not have access to the field until 30 minutes prior to game time.
  3. Only players, coaches, officials and trainers allowed on the field.
  4. No hard nylon or metal cleats allowed on Artificial Turf fields.
  5. No smoking, chewing tobacco, or alcohol allowed on the field or in the locker rooms.
  6. No sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, gum or other food or drink (excluding water) is allowed on the turf.  Sport Drinks not allowed on turf.
  7. Footwear:  No steel spikes or plastic cleats.  Small rubber cleats (a specialized artificial turf shoe) or running shoes are recommended. 
  8. Please keep locker rooms clean and prior to leaving ensure all garbage (used tape, etc.) is put in the garbage cans.  Locker rooms will be inspected before and after teams use them.
  9. Clean shoes prior to going onto turf.  DO NOT USE THE SINKS IN THE LOCKER ROOMS TO CLEAN CLEATS. 
  10. Please keep area around benches clean.
  11. Parking – ensure all players and spectators adhere to the parking signs.  Anyone parked in no parking areas may be ticketed and towed.
  12. Cost for day of game tickets is $5.00 at the gate.
  13. Buses are not allowed in the circle at Foote Field.
  14. Bus parking for Emerald Hills is on Amberley Way heading east.
  15. Lights – the Game Manager will be responsible for ensuring the lights are turned on for games as required.
  16. Press Box – only game/team officials (no spectators) are allowed  in the Press Boxes.  Foote Field east Press Box – only ICU Video personnel allowed.
